Valentines Day – with a Difference
Normally I’m one of those people who doesn’t celebrate Valentine’s Day. I’ve always thought it was just a day designed by Tiffany or Hallmark to encourage us to buy gifts and spend money.
But this all changed for me the other day when I read a friends Instagram post…
See for her Valentine’s Day isn’t a day where you need a date and a gift, but more of a time to celebrate love.
She takes it one step further and makes the whole of February a ‘Love Month’.
I loved this idea.
What if we all dedicated not only Valentine’s Day itself but the whole of February to focus on celebrating love and feeling grateful for the love we have in our lives?
Love for our family, love for our friends, love for our home, and most importantly love for our selves.
What if we dedicated February to bringing more self-love into our lives?
Life is busy! How much time do you have to dedicate to yourself? If you’re anything like me, not very much.
We rush around from place to place, filling our days with as much as we possibly can, leaving ourselves feeling tired, depleted and with nothing else to give.
What if for the month of February you decided to make more time for self-love?
Make a conscious effort to do something that brings you joy. Everyday doing something that’s just for you – big or small.
Like switching of technology at night when the kids are asleep and taking a cup of tea and a book to bed. Or doing that yoga class you have always wanted to try. Giving yourself a facial (or better get someone else to).
Allow yourself the extra time at the hair salon and say ‘YES’ to the hair treatment with the longer scalp massage and the Blow-Dry.
You will leave the salon feeling fabulous and what’s even more fabulous is that blow dry is going to last a few days.
Turn off your phone while you’re in there. Relax. Drink a hot cup of tea or coffee and actually get to finish it! Read a magazine and just switch off.
Don’t wait for someone else to make you feel special this Valentines Day. Make yourself feel special.
You never know, you might even find some things you want to continue on past February and make every month a ‘Love Month’.
